We were recently paid a visit by our Norwegian counterparts who evidently wanted to make sure it was really really cold where we were too. They were obviously looking for an excuse to get out of their drab collection of huts for just a little while and it was truly gratifying to see their little Norse faces light up when they saw our cherry blossom wallpaper mural – not a few tears were shed in delight at this little glimpse of spring and warmth when surrounded by so much frigid death. I was very happy to point them in the direction of the online webstore I had gotten ours from and we all sat down to a hearty meal of something that wasn t seal.
Most importantly, there s no need to be poo-faced and take it all too seriously! Have fun with design. Add a new dimension to your home and make it feel like yours.
The ability to perceive beauty probably arose through evolutionary necessity: If an environment looked right then it would probably provide adequate food and shelter and if a person looked right then there is a good chance that progeny arising from a union with that individual would be OK too. By the same token, if a wall sticker looks right coming out of the tube then it s bound to look great above the sofa!
If on the other hand you already have some strong colors you may have to work around them. Mixing block colors is very on trend for 2011 so if you have one accent color at present doesn t be afraid to add more colors to the mix. For instance if you went crazy for the Teal with Chocolate brown pairing that was all the rage last year then try and take away the brown and add some bright orange and some grey. This will tune into the 1950s Festival of Britain trend beautifully. If you love the wallpaper of the moment, Sanderson s Dandelion Clocks but you can t be bothered to wallpaper you could easily create this look with a tin of emulsion and some floating dandelions wall stickers. Simply paint the background semi-circles first then add the wall stickers – fantastic!
